Northern Skills Group believes that education has the potential to transform the region's economic competitiveness and as such, is committed to aligning its STEM training to the skills and requirements of employers.
A STEM Advisory Board was established in 2013 to inform on strategy, investment plans and in particular, develop the STEM Centre's training programmes and facilities. The Advisory Board has an extensive membership which includes representatives from some of the top North East businesses including NIFCO, PD Ports and Greenergy.
By working in partnership with the employers on our Advisory Board Northern Skills Group is able to make sure the training offered in the STEM Centre is geared up to deliver the skills needed by local industry.
The centre has regular meetings with the STEM Advisory Board supplemented by extensive one-to-one consultations to inform:
- The design of the centre's training facilities and equipment specifications
- The development and delivery of education and training programmes including apprenticeships and workforce development programmes
- The production of the shared STEM Manifesto
