Middlesbrough College’s highly anticipated Apprenticeship Expo has once again proven to be a pivotal event in connecting students with leading employers, opening doors to exciting career opportunities.
The event welcomed over 2,000 aspiring apprentices and showcased the College’s strong partnerships with businesses across a diverse range of industries, from engineering and AV technology to healthcare and construction.
Employers, including SeAH Wind, BA Joinery and Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust attended the event, eager to connect with prospective apprentices and discuss career opportunities.
Employers praised the College’s commitment to developing skilled, workplace-ready apprentices. Graham Massey, Managing Director of JacobsMassey, highlighted the College’s role in pioneering the UK-wide Audiovisual Technician Apprenticeship. He said: “Middlesbrough College’s academic delivery is highly respected and its support has enabled us to create a direct pathway into the AV industry. Within the next few years, this apprenticeship will have a significant impact on increasing skilled professionals in our sector.”
Amentum, a longstanding partner of the College, also commended the event’s value in growing the next generation of engineers. Victoria Richards, Capability and Resourcing Director at Amentum, said: “The TTE centre is a huge asset, providing hands-on experience for our apprentices from day one. Many of our apprentices continue to grow within our company, thriving in their roles and making real contributions to the business.”
Current apprentices also shared their experiences, highlighting the transformative impact of their training. Alfie Patchett, an apprentice at SeAH Wind, said: “It’s the best way to start your career – you’re gaining a qualification while earning at the same time. It’s a no-brainer!”
Meanwhile, Lucas Gaffney, an apprentice at Sulzer, reflected on his journey, saying: “The apprenticeship has matured me and given me real hands-on experience. It’s motivated me to do better every day.”
As the North East’s leading provider of apprenticeships, Middlesbrough College continues to play a key role in bridging the gap between education and industry.
The success of this year’s Apprenticeship Expo reinforces the College’s dedication to supporting both learners and businesses in developing a highly skilled workforce for the future.
