FAMILY RUN, INDEPENDENT BUSINESS, Bentley’s Coffee Shop, has hired its first apprentice to support its growth.

Working with apprenticeship and training provider Northern Skills, Bentley’s have welcomed 16 year old Jake Atkinson as an Apprentice, joining their Eston team.

Coffee shop manager, Andy Hall said: “It was great to welcome Jake to the team. He finished his GCSEs during covid times and was due to do his work experience with us at our Coulby Newham location. Unfortunately due to lockdowns he wasn’t able to complete that. However, we kept in touch and we are thrilled that we’ve expanded and he has been able to join us as our very first apprentice.”

Apprentice Jake Atkinson said: “I am very grateful to have the opportunity to learn about catering and hospitality. It’s a great environment, and Andy and the team are very supportive with my training. I’m really looking forward to completing my apprenticeship with Northern Skills Group and Bentley’s and I’m excited to have the opportunity to take my training even further in the future.”

Valerie Hogan, skills development manager at Northern Skills said: “It has been a pleasure working with a fantastic local company who is committed to investing in training of staff  through the Apprenticeship programme, it is a great way to develop skills relevant to their organisation”

Emily Bentley, co-owner and director said: “The hospitality industry is so important to the region as an employer and as a skill set. Being able to offer Jake the opportunity he wanted to train, develop and grow with us, with the help of Northern Skills Group, was brilliant.

Emily continued: “Jake has become an integral part of the team and we are looking forward to taking him through his level 2 in Hospitality and beyond. We are excited to see how he will progress in the business and we hope that he will be the start of many opportunities to bring apprentices on in the future to support our growth.”
