Apprentice and employer

Foundation apprenticeships available in:

Construction

Building Service Engineering – low carbon heating, refrigeration air conditioning and heat pump engineering and plumbing (delivered in the workplace).

Finishing Trades – painters and decorators, wall tilers and floor layers (delivered in the workplace).

Onsite Trades – bricklayers, carpenters, joiners and plasterers (day release per week).

Engineering

Engineering and Manufacturing (delivered in the workplace).

Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care (day release approximately half a day per week)

Can be delivered in the North (Newcastle/Sunderland) and Middlesbrough.

IT and Digital

Hardware, Network and Infrastructure (classroom delivery, day release one day per week)

Software and Data (classroom delivery, day release one day per week)

Information on Employer Incentive

Where a foundation apprenticeship attracts an employer incentive (as identified within the standard on the IfATE website), payments will be generated (and paid via the provider) as follows:

  • 90 days after the apprentice’s learning start date, £667 will be paid if the apprentice is still undertaking their foundation apprenticeship
  • 242 days after the apprentice’s learning start date, £667 will be paid if the apprentice is still undertaking their foundation apprenticeship

A progression payment of £666 will be paid if the apprentice, upon completion of their foundation apprenticeship:

  • Starts a new apprenticeship (which is not a foundation apprenticeship) within 6 months of their completion date; and
  • Remains with the same employer (i.e. stays on the same employers AS account)

This payment will be made 90 days after the apprentice’s learning start date (on their new apprenticeship), if they are still undertaking that apprenticeship.
