We caught up with Level 4 Network Engineering apprentice, Matthew Mallett!
Matthew joined Middlesbrough College as an apprentice with Northern Skills, after previously being a student in the college.
When we asked Matthew what his Level 4 was like, he told us “I really enjoyed my apprenticeship. I’ve always driven myself to work in IT from a young age. I wanted to progress further after College, however, going through the University route didn’t interest me. The director of IT approached my class with an opening for an apprenticeship after College. I applied and was determined to get the role as I knew an apprenticeship would be best for my skill set, and I was successful!
“Being able to learn and gain real work experience at the same time has prepared me for full-time employment, as well as getting me on the right path to progressing. I aim to keep developing my skills and work on more projects to become a network engineer.
“In written work, my assessor was always supportive and reactive, including giving helpful feedback straight away, directing me on what I needed to do to make it the best quality, and hitting all my KSB targets. This has massively helped me to reach the final stage of my apprenticeship (endpoint assessment) 6 months earlier than expected!”
Matthew has now progressed from an apprentice to having a full-time role with Middlesbrough College as a network technician!
