We recently spoke to Lacey Harvey, Junior PPC Executive apprentice at Mabo about her time as an apprentice. Mabo are located in Middlesbrough town centre and have additional offices in Glasgow, Scotland.
“My employer is Mabo; they are a digital marketing company who specialise in pay-per-click advertising. They have made my apprenticeship extremely engaging from weekly training sessions, where I can learn new skills and how to communicate with new people to daily team meetings and social events where I can meet new people and make new friends.
“I have learnt many transferable skills which I know will be very beneficial for any future role or job. The skills I have learnt will help me in all aspects of life and my future development. I get to work with a wide variety of people who are all interested in the same sector of work. It’s amazing to work with so many people who have different levels of experience. Everyone at work is passionate about learning and helping each other to make progress and learn new ideas and concepts. It’s a great environment to learn in, everyone is extremely helpful and supportive, they always want you to achieve your best.
“I chose to study an apprenticeship with Middlesbrough College because I wanted to get experience in a work environment whilst still furthering my education. It’s difficult to know what type of job you want to do at such a young age, but an apprenticeship helped me realise that a job in marketing was what I really wanted to do. My apprenticeship will hopefully improve my career prospects as I will have hands-on experience in a working environment. I will also understand the importance of working as a team within a company so that the brand I am working for is well represented.
“I have found studying my apprenticeship through Middlesbrough College great. I am able to work with a company who wants me to make excellent progress in a career I am passionate about whilst still gaining an education. My College tutor is always available to give me the support I need and help me make the progress I need to further my education and hopefully achieve a qualification to a high standard.
“The teaching and support I receive on my apprenticeship is excellent. There is always support from my tutor there when I need it, and she is always willing to go the extra mile to help me with my work, providing me with positive feedback to help me improve my work.
“My apprenticeship is different from what I expected as I didn’t realise I was joining such an engaging, supportive and social company. I’ve been so lucky to get an apprenticeship with Mabo who are such an amazing company. They have made my experience so enjoyable and working for them is great.
“I do hope to be kept on as a full-time employee at Mabo as it is a great company to work for. They really do want the best for their employees and the company. They are always looking for ways to improve and develop. I would recommend studying my apprenticeship to others. It is a great way to learn more about something you are interested in as well as getting hands-on experience in a real working environment. It’s the best of both worlds for young people who aren’t sure what they want to do!”
