Course overview

This occupation is in the manufacturing and process sectors. Fitters produce complex, high-value, low-volume components or assemblies, such as turbines, cranes, and gearboxes, to required specifications. They may specialize in mechanical, electrical, electronic, control systems, pipe fitting, or instrumentation.

Fitters interpret drawings, plan their work, and ensure they have the necessary tools and resources. They check their work against quality standards and make adjustments as needed. After completing a task, they hand over the product and prepare the work area for the next task. They may work in workshops or client premises, including hazardous environments.

Fitters interact with line managers, supervisors, and other personnel like installation and maintenance engineers, health and safety, and quality assurance staff. They are responsible for completing their work to specifications and deadlines, adhering to quality, health, safety, and environmental regulations, with minimal supervision.
