COURSE CONTENT

  • This course will enable you to understand the principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations with regulations and requirements.
  • Its content covers the skills and necessary background knowledge for the inspection, testing, commissioning and certification of electrical installations.
  • The course includes both theory and hands on training.
  • This qualification helps you to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to professionally inspect and test electrical installations and prepares candidates for the initial verification of electrical installations. Allowing candidates to be able to complete the Electrical Installation Certificate and associated Schedules and also the Minor works certificate.
  • Periodic testing will not be covered in this qualification.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • This qualification is aimed at, practising or otherwise, electricians which have gained relevant technical certification and have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying or those who require some update of training before going on to other City & Guilds qualifications.
  • The qualification is also suitable for those with limited experience of initial inspection of electrical installations, such as those entering the industry from other engineering disciplines.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

  • Written exam, duration 1½ hours and an on-line exam consisting of 40 questions in 1 hour 20 minutes plus four practical assessments.
  • Set and marked by City & Guilds. This exam takes place on a pre-determined date by City & Guilds, and will be on Wednesday evenings.

  • Completing the safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
  • Inspecting, testing and recording the condition of electrical installations
  • Completing the periodic inspection of electrical installations
  • Differences between period inspection and initial verification
  • Safe testing of electrical installations which have been placed in service
  • Testing before circuits are energised
  • Testing energised installations
  • Interpret test results
  • Completion of electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation
