Peter Brunton, Alan Goldie and Anthony Bradshaw came through the Teesworks Skills Academy to train at Middlesbrough College.

Employed by Thompsons of Prudhoe, the three learners all needed additional training to work within the Teesworks site and completed the Medium Risk Confined Spaces course developed by Middlesbrough College Group. The course they completed includes training on identifying flammable and toxic atmospheres, understanding the relevant requirements and regulations which control entry into confined spaces and how to manage teams of people within confined spaces correctly to minimise risk.

Sandra Lee, their Line Manager understands the importance of training her workforce so they can be on-site ready:

The courses that Middlesbrough College have recently provided Thompsons of Prudhoe, through the Teesworks Skills Academy, has been valued to the upskilling of our workforce, be it from Working in Confined Spaces for our Asbestos Operatives to CPCS Telescopic Handler Training for our Demolition Operatives on site at Teesworks.  This has assisted not only Thompsons but the employees due to increasing their workload and our productivity.”

Peter, Alan and Anthony all completed the Medium Risk Confined Spaces 2-day course free of charge to develop their skill-sets, and left some great comments about their time training at Middlesbrough College.

Peter says “By completing this course, I am now trained and competent to enter ducts securely and I have developed my understanding of how to manage everyday working life scenarios safely, decreasing the risk of emergency situations.”

Alan, a Teesside local, states “By completing this course I have developed my skills in duct work, confined space entry tasks and oxygen and displacement, which are essential expertise for working within the Teesworks site. I am really excited to be working on a much larger scale at the Teesworks site. It is great to be working within local industry and I hope Teesworks Skills Academy helps create new jobs in our area.”

Anthony goes on to say “The training at Middlesbrough College was great, and has prepared me for working in the ducts at the Teesworks site. By completing the course, we are now open to more opportunities within the Teesworks site as we are competent and ready to go.”
