Childrens and Young Peoples Manager ( Residential Care) Apprenticeship – Level 5

Skills and knowledge include:

• Ensures each child receives the care and that the continuity of care for each child is in place
• Models the behaviour expected from staff and communicates a clear message about the responsibilities required in the care and support of children
• Manages and monitors safe systems of physical restraint
• The principles of long term care and support for children and young people
• The legislation, the theoretical approaches and the compliance requirements for running a residential care home for the care and support of children and young people
• The theory and best practice in the use of restraint

Employment in a suitable role for the chosen apprenticeship is essential. Northern Skills will work with applicants to help find a suitable employer where possible but we advise anyone looking to undertake an apprenticeship to actively seek employment for themselves.

Applicants are required to have Level 2 English and maths (GCSE grades 9-4/A-C).

Certificates will need to be produced at enrolment. If proof cannot be produced or you do not meet these entry requirements, then applicants will be invited to complete an initial assessment prior to acceptance. An interview will take place.

This qualification is assessed through:

• On-the-job training throughout
• Off-the-job training to acquire the required knowledge and skills
• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care
